About this layer
This data represents NIEA surveys and may not represent the entire extent of habitat or species across Northern Ireland
The heathland database was mapped using evidence gathered from on the ground reconnaissance surveys, ortho-photography survey and existing knowledge of sites of high quality. The geographical coverage of the survey concentrated on areas of known dry heath habitats concentrated in south-eastern areas of Northern Ireland and on Rathlin Island. This data was compiled by the Habitat Survey Team, Conservation Science: 2010 - 2014.
The heathland database focused on known areas of dry heathland resource within the south-east and on Rathlin Island. It only sought out areas large enough to be considered as possible Areas of Special Scientific Interest(ASSIs).
